Special Exhibition "13 Pieces of Early Modern Nagareyama

This exhibition will feature 13 themes from Nagareyama in the Edo period, 13 old documents ・ illustrations representing each theme, and related materials. We hope that this exhibition will provide an opportunity to find something that connects to present-day Nagareyama, or to discover traces of history that exist in Nagareyama, though forgotten or unnoticed.

Edogawa, Sakagawa, Mirin, Kobayashi Issa, Shinsengumi … … Many of the key words that are indispensable in describing modern Nagareyama have their roots in the Edo period. In other words, it may be said that the roots of modern Nagareyama lie in the Edo period.

This exhibition features 13 themes from Nagareyama in the Edo period, and exhibits 13 old documents ・ illustrations representing each theme and related materials. We hope that this exhibition will provide an opportunity to find something that connects to contemporary Nagareyama, or to discover traces of history that exist in Nagareyama, though forgotten or unnoticed.
